Happy Leaving Las Vegas Day

Someone edited together clips from my favorite Valentine's Day movie to the tune of Jeff Buckley's 'Lilac Wine.' I liked it. Maybe you will too.

So, did Ben love Sera, or did he just love alcohol? Maybe he loved Sera, but he needed alcohol more? If they'd have met sooner in life, would it have worked out for the two of them?

Music was horrible. Clips were good.

I agree with your second proposition: he loved Sera, but loved/needed the alcohol more. Or, loved Sera, but lacked the strength to stop drinking.

I disagree with the theory embedded in your last proposition. I think that, generally, the process of life is meant to prepare us for what comes next. Ergo, we would not have been any better prepared any earlier. Consider thusly, from the life of our own noble host: would the Midget have been prepared to fall in love with and marry his darling wife had he not had the life experiences he had had prior to meeting her? I (who witnesses much of the Midget's formative years, though certainly not all) posit that he would not have been prepared, and would have blown it somehow.

I often tell people (and sincerely mean it) that although there are things I have done in the past that I am embarrased by and sorry for, there is nothing that I have done which I regret, and nothing I would change if I could do it over again. I believe this because I cannot envision being happier than I am now, and all of my life experience to date has helped to make me what I am and who I am, and has helped steer me to where I am. And if I changed any of that, I am afraid I would somehow lose what I have now (one of those Marty McFly time paradox thingies).

Same thing with the film. Our characters were fated by their past to be who they were and do what they did. As Camus would say, no escape.

Valid points you've made there. I also would not change the things I've done wrong, because they each taught me something, and maybe even have made me a better person. At least, they made me easier to deal with.

But ... were you hating on Jeff Buckley, or just saying that the song doesn't match up with the clips?
