Barroid Bobblehead indicted
Okay guys. I have but one question: Will his home run record get taken off the books, will it get an asterisk (like his 756th homerun ball, thanks to Mark Ecko), or will it be left alone?
And CowboyLaw, what are the odds that he'll do time for this? I know you're not a criminal lawyer, but since you live in that neck of the woods, I'm assuming you've had some interesting water cooler chats...

I really doubt Barry will be found guilty. If he's found guilty, I really doubt he'll do any time in jail. Here's the 411.
First, the government is going to have to prove he KNOWINGLY took steroids. It's very very difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt what someone knows. You can argue that he SHOULD HAVE known, you can argue that a REASONABLE person would have known, but it's another thing entirely to prove that he REALLY knew. And that's what the government is going to have to prove on the perjury charge, because all Bonds said was that he never KNOWINGLY took steroids.
Complicating the whole thing is the fact that he'll be tried here in SF, where he's pretty much a hero. It's hard for me to envision a jury that would convict him. Imagine trying Elway for perjury in Denver in 1999. Think that woulda worked? Same thing here. Every jury will have at least one Bonds fan on it, who will go into the jury room, cross their arms, and say "Not guilty." How many hung juries does a prosecutor need before they give up?
I suppose Mr. Bonds has destroyed his injection logs. If only Nixon had burned those tapes...
